From My House to Yours
This is the part of the Newsletter that I like to invite you in to my home, for a cup of coffee, or to hear the latest happenings.
To be very honest, the latest happenings at our house have been rather chaotic in the last few months. The reason is, someone forgot the battery back-up! And as much as I would like to blame my hubby, I really can’t. Let me explain…
For years when I was in Real Estate, I would encourage my clients when they moved into a new home to put a battery back-up on their sump pump just in case the power went out. Well, guess who didn’t take their own advice?
So along with being hit by several storms this Spring, we also were hit with power outages in our area. That’s when we realized that when the power finally came back on, our sump-pump did not. What made it worse, we didn’t even realize it until 3 days later.
So began a crazy whirlwind of events. And I would be lying if I said there weren’t a few anxious moments, especially as tons of people began coming in and out of our home, pumping out the water, bringing in commercial size fans and dehumidifiers that looked a lot like “R2D2’ to dry out the basement. Then the demolition began! They had to remove the LVT flooring, baseboards, 2ft of drywall, insulation, a bathroom vanity, etc. etc. You get the picture!
Needless to say the lesson learned here is simple, be prepared. And I am not only referring to a battery-backup, although if you don’t have one I really do suggest you get one. But no matter what unexpected storms, power outages, or even forgetfulness that comes into our life I was reminded throughout this ordeal, there is still a safe place to go.
This place that I am referring to is not necessarily a tangible location, but rather it is a place in our hearts and mind given to us in God’s Word. These calming words of reassurance were prepared in advance of our need. And what is even more remarkable, is that these words were written by a man named Paul, as he sat in a Roman prison. How humbling!
When I read these words I couldn’t help but be humbled! My flooded basement does not compare to the suffering that Paul went through. Yet God in all His wisdom and graciousness, gave us all these words in preparation of what He knew was to come.
You and I might be taken off guard by the things that are happening around us, but God is never surprised! When those moments in our life, our home, our health, our jobs, and even our world appears to be turning upside down isn’t it comforting to know He is right there? Giving us a peace which transcends all of our human understanding.
I pray you feel the love and the truth of those words today! And I thank you again for joining me at Regina’s Porch Talk.
Have a blessed day,
Regina
